About Us

Dereham Men’s Shed was formed in 2018/19 and in the early days we would meet at Dereham Baptist Church. We had no workshop at that time and it wouldn’t be until after the Covid Pandemic that we were able to find suitable premises.

We were extremely thankful to Dereham Theatre Company when they offered us space to use as a workshop.  With the use of their kitchen in which we had had just the occasional brew-up, we finally had a place to call home.

Our workshop is still based there but we are now fast running out of space.  The kitchen area whilst an excellent meeting space it was just a small room. We have been very fortunate in being given the use of a much larger building by Dereham Cancer Care. It is here that we now hold our regular Wednesday afternoon get-togethers.

Dereham Men’s Shed is just one of hundreds of similar men’s shed in the UK and thousands across the world. Men’s Sheds or Community Sheds are non-profit local organisations that provide space for hobbies, crafts and social interaction.

The UK Men’s Sheds Association, the support body for Men’s Sheds across the UK. and provides much guidance in the development of Men’s Sheds for the benefit of men’s health and wellbeing.

Sheds bring health benefits by encouraging physical and mental activity, and improved wellbeing by providing an enjoyable way to stay socially integrated in local communities, by being creative, and learning or passing on skills.
